In our lesson this week, we have learned about TPACK which stands for Technology, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge. Its idea is for us to use technology to support student understanding. Meanwhile, a teacher can still teach the way they know how to (Pedagogy), as well as using the same content that they are to cover. But, the lesson is really about creative problem solving.
Teachers need to come up with multiple approaches to solve a problem. In this case, multiple ways to use technology to reach out to and engage our students, so that they want to learn our content. These approaches that we come up with should be creative, effective, and whole. I would also say the more ways we try, the better chance we have of succeeding. So, for example, in my classroom, I might let students choose from multiple approaches to show me that they understand my content. Maybe, I allow some students to create a short TV show to demonstrate their mastery, while another group is recording a rap about the content, while still another group could decide to do a powerpoint presentations, complete with hyperlinks and imbedded video. The more options we try as teachers, the more chance of success we will have with our students.
